Library membership scheme
Anyone can search the Australian Institute of Family Studies Library catalogue.
To help small, not-for-profit, non-government organisations obtain access to library materials, we offer a special NGO Library Membership Scheme.
You are entitled to be a member, if:
- You are involved in the planning and delivery of services to children and families within disadvantaged Australian communities; and
- You work for a not-for-profit, non-government organisation in Australia.
Membership is free. You can:
- borrow books, reports and audio-visual materials.
- have up to 25 articles photocopied per year from journals.

Conditions of loan
- You can borrow up to 3 items per time.
- Loan periods are for 1 month, unless the item is in demand.
- Posting of items to members is free. You are responsible for the postage costs when returning items.
- You are responsible for the care and return of the item by the due date.
- Your item should arrive within 10 working days. If it does not arrive, please contact us. Otherwise we will assume that it has been received.
- Renewals are made by phone, fax or email. Loans may be renewed once if:
- they are not overdue, or
- there are no reservations on the item.
- Items not returned by the due date will incur restrictions on further borrowing.
- Items lost or damaged will incur the cost of replacement.
Conditions for photocopying
The Library has obtained a license from the Copyright Agency Limited to provide photocopying services to members.
Copying has to comply with the "fair dealing" requirements of the Copyright Act 1968. This means we can provide only one article from any one journal issue.
Other ways of accessing the collection
If you are not eligible for membership, you can still access material:
- Online - click on the weblink in the catalogue record
- Print - contact your organisation's library or your local library to arrange an interlibrary loan.
