We are the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS), the Australian Government’s key independent research body and advisor in the area of family wellbeing, based in Melbourne. Our work increases understanding about the factors that help Australian families thrive, or that are barriers to their wellbeing. We produce research about ‘what works for families’ and make it accessible to decision makers, practitioners and the general public.

The Institute’s Longitudinal and Lifecourse Studies (LLS) area is a highly professional team with in-depth experience in managing numerous national longitudinal studies. The team is structured around three main areas of expertise: survey methodology, data management and analytics, and research and analysis.

The Research and Analysis team have a high level of expertise in the analysis of longitudinal data. Much of the Institute’s longitudinal data analysis involves the use of one of the six longitudinal studies that it manages. The Institute prepares a range of publications using data from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC), Building a New Life in Australia (BNLA), and the Australian Temperament Project (ATP), including research reports, peer-reviewed publications, statistical reports, research summaries, policy briefs and fact sheets.

We are currently seeking talented and enthusiastic applicants to join the Data Management and Analytics team. The Data Officer/Analyst, Senior Data Officer/Analyst position will provide data and statistical programming support to projects linked to LifeCourse and Longitudinal Studies.

You will ensure our projects adhere to industry best practices for data management and undertake statistical analyses to produce tables and figures. Additionally, you will make contributions to high quality technical reports, research reports and other research deliverables.

The role will be offered on a non-ongoing basis for a period of 18 months (with the possibility of extension to a maximum term of three years) at APS Level 3–4 with a salary range of  $57,596 to $69,698 per annum (full-time equivalent) or APS Level 5–6 with a salary range of $72,070 to $88,827 per annum (full-time equivalent). The appointment level of the successful applicant will be determined by their skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience.
