Responsible gambling codes of conduct: What purpose do they serve?

A webinar presented by Angela Rintoul and Professor Laurie Brown that discusses recent research about gambling venues' compliance with industry codes of conduct aimed at promoting responsible gambling.

Background

To date there has been little research into environmental factors that influence gambling behaviour. To address this gap, the AGRC undertaking research to examine why gambling problems cluster in some local areas.

About the project

Key questions being investigated include:

  • what environmental factors contribute to different levels of gambling consumption?

  • what is the nature and extent of harm experienced by gamblers, their families and the local community in each location?

In order to explore the relationship between expenditure and harm, the study includes areas with high gambling expenditure and compare these with middle-to-low gambling expenditure. Gathering information in both areas assists in understanding ways to understand the differences, and develop effective policy and regulatory responses. The findings of this study will be used to inform evidence-based strategies to respond to and prevent gambling-related harm.
