Report – Adoptions Australia 2017-18

24 January 2019

This report highlights trends in the number of adoptions of children in Australia.

This report has been published by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW).

The report presents statistics for the 2017/18 period, along with trends since 1993/94, for local and intercountry adoptions and adoptions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. The report shows that known child adoptions have increased over the past decade and comprised 71% of all finalised adoptions in 2017/18, largely due to a policy change in New South Wales that resulted in a higher number of adoptions from foster care.

Access the report via the AIHW website.
