Report – Fourth Action Plan 2018–2020: Supporting families, communities and organisations to keep children safe

4 February 2019

The Australian Government has released its Fourth Action Plan for the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009–2020.

This report has been published by the Department of Social Services.

The Fourth Action Plan, National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009–2020, forms part of the critical foundation for governments and non-government organisations to work towards the safety of all children and young people in Australia.

The Plan has four priority areas, including a standalone focus on improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who are at risk of entering, or in contact with, child protection systems. The four priority areas include:

  1. place-based initiatives delivered nationally to ensure a more collaborative and integrated approach to early intervention and prevention
  2. improving permanency outcomes to support children in out-of-home care
  3. implementation support for the National Principles of Child Safe Organisations
  4. continued delivery of key activities from the Third Action Plan.

This plan is the final instalment of the National Framework for Protection Australia’s Children 2009–2020.
