Family connections and contact study: Final report

Family connections and contact study: Final report

17 September 2019

This report looks at supporting birth family contact for children in out-of-home care in New South Wales.

This report has been published by the Institute of Open Adoption Studies, University of Sydney.

The report presents findings from a study on the benefits and challenges of contact and what supports are needed to help carers and birth parents overcome difficulties. It also focuses on how carers and birth parents can build constructive and collaborative relationships.

It also discusses how New South Wales is progressing with a transition to a model out-of-home care, where carers manage birth family contact arrangements without any agency support.
