The views of children and young people in out-of-home care in NSW: Results from the 2018 NSW Out-of-Home Care and Residential Care Surveys

16 January 2020

This report presents findings from two recent surveys of young people in out-of-home care in New South Wales and considers trends since 2015.

This report has been published by the Department of Communities and Justice, New South Wales.

The report summarises findings from two recent surveys into the views and experiences of children and young people in out-of-home care:

  • the NSW OOHC Survey completed by 322 children and young people
  • the NSW Residential Care Survey  completed by 143 children and young people

Overall, the findings are encouraging, but children and young people in residential care report lower levels of inclusion, participation, and feeling safe and settled.
