The report proposes ways to improve access to early childhood education for children from culturally diverse backgrounds.

This report has been published by Settlement Services International (SSI).

The report presents findings from an analyses of Australian Early Developmnent Census data, conducted by the Telethon Kids Institute.

Among its findings, the report highlights that:

  • 24% of children starting school in 2018 were from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds
  • Children from CALD backgrounds were less likely to attend any type of early childhood education
  • CALD children who didn't attend early childhood education were 1.8 times more likely to be developmentally vulnerable compared to CALD children who attended.
