Review of the NSW Child Safe Standards for Permanent Care: Summary of consultation with the Aboriginal OOHC sector

2 September 2021

This report shares services' insights on improving out-of-home care for Aboriginal children and young people.

This report has been published by the New South Wales Office of the Children's Guardian.

This report summarises issues raised by Aboriginal out-of-home care providers and workers, as part of a review of accreditation criteria in New South Wales.

Several common themes were raised, including:

  • practice standards should reflect the link between wellbeing and culture
  • practice requirements and cultural care plans should reflect the specific needs of Aboriginal children and young people
  • agency assessments should include discussions with staff, not just a review of records.

Access the report via the NSW Office of the Children's Guardian website.
