Families in Australia Survey

Towards COVID Normal

Families in Australia Survey logo

The Towards COVID Normal survey wants to understand how ordinary Australians have been adjusting to the ongoing impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Who can take the survey?

To take the survey, all you need is to be 18 years old or over and a resident of Australia. We are interested in every person in every type of family because families come in all shapes and sizes.

How long will it take?

This research involves completion of an online survey. The survey will take 20-25 minutes to complete, but may take a little less or more depending on your circumstances.

As a thank you for your time

Five randomly selected participants will be offered shopping vouchers (valued at $500 each) if they opt into the random draw at the conclusion of the survey. See terms and conditions.

What will we do with your responses?

We want to find out how people are adjusting, and if they’re getting the supports they need. We will share insights from the survey with the general public, government and non-government agencies, to help them serve families better.

Only approved researchers will have access to the data, which will be de-identified. Nothing confidential or identifiable will be shared. The data will also be stored in the Australian Data Archive with all identifying information removed.

Who are we?

We are the Australian Institute of Family Studies, or AIFS (pronounced ayfs). We are the Australian Government’s key research body about family wellbeing. We research factors that help and hold back families. Because when families thrive, Australia thrives.

What are we researching?

We are asking Australians 18 years and over to tell us about how they and their families are going. While we may be heading towards a time that might be described as ‘COVID normal’, this remains a time of uncertainty in which there can be rapid changes in restrictions faced across the country. How has your family, social and daily life changed? What challenges do you and your family continue to face? And what support would help right now? The research will focus on:

  • How are families continuing to adjust since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic?
  • How are they feeling the ongoing social impacts?
  • How are they feeling the ongoing economic impacts?
  • How are they continuing to support each other, even when they can’t be together?
