Materials not requiring permission

Apart from the content described in the next section, most textual and audio-visual content published by AIFS since 2012 is available for use under a Creative Commons licence, the current version of which is the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0).

A CC BY licence means: 

• You do not need to request permission from AIFS to copy or re-use the work.
• You may reproduce and distribute the work, in part or whole, for commercial and non-commercial purposes (e.g. publish an extract in a textbook).
• You may re-work the material, in part or whole, for commercial and non-commercial purposes (e.g. use the data to create a new graph or table).
• You may licence any new works created under your own terms (i.e., they do not have to be made available under CC BY terms).
• You must acknowledge AIFS as the copyright holder of the work (e.g. ‘The Nature of Living Alone in Australia’, Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) on behalf of the Commonwealth of Australia, CC BY 4.0), including links to the original work, this copyright page and the CC BY 4.0 page.
• You must indicate if any changes were made (e.g. ‘Figure 3: Proportions of persons living alone who prefer to live alone, by age and gender, 2008’, Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) on behalf of the Commonwealth of Australia , CC BY 4.0, redrawn using original data).

Works with a CC BY licence are indicated with a licensing statement and/or a CC BY logo.

It is helpful for us to know how, why and where AIFS publications are being used. If you are planning to use AIFS content, we would appreciate if you could email us with some brief details.

Materials requiring permission

If you wish to use AIFS materials that do not explicitly state that they are available under any version of CC BY licence, you must obtain written permission from AIFS by contacting AIFS.

AIFS branding, the Commonwealth Coat of Arms, content provided by third parties, and any material protected by a trademark may not be used without obtaining permission from the original copyright owners.

Third-party and trademark content includes (but is not restricted to):

• photos
• background images
• logos
• icons
• illustrations
• names.

Content where the copyright is held by a third party is subject to the licensing arrangements of the original owner.

Copyright for authors

All contributions published or broadcast by AIFS will be subject to assignment of rights by the contributor to AIFS. Depending on the nature of the contribution, the contributor will be required to sign a Deed of Copyright Assignment or a Publish and Broadcast Licence.

AIFS publications are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0). Content where the copyright is held by a third party is subject to the licensing arrangements of the original owner.

Commenting

When you submit a comment to an AIFS website, you retain copyright in it. By submitting a comment to an AIFS website you agree to make it available to the rest of the world under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0).
