Overview

It is hoped that this directory will serve as a resource that can promote international cooperation, particularly in support of countries in the process of developing family policies or plans; facilitate international sharing of information and networking within the research community; and possibly lead to cooperative or comparative research projects.

The directory provides a record of the range and diversity of research projects and related activities that were carried out around the world within the context of the International Year of the Family.

A total of 332 research projects conducted in 47 countries are reported, including studies on the family or family related issues; surveys or reviews of the situation of the family or of family services or legislation; statistical reports on the family; special books or publications based on research; and action research projects. Research projects and activities are listed alphabetically under country name. There are also organisation and subject indexes. An appendix presents the Request for information questionnaire and explanatory documentation.

A separately published 53-page supplement presents entries which were received after publication date of the main document. A further 107 research projects from 21 countries are included.
