Overview

This paper describes the political controversy surrounding the introduction of national earnings-related superannuation and a pension fund in Sweden, how the pensions scheme functions, and aspects such as costs, indexation, and widows' and children's pensions.

This Occasional Paper was prepared by Professor Hultaker while he was a Visiting Fellow with the Australian Institute of Family Studies in 1984. He is Professor of Sociology at Uppsala University, Sweden, and is currently Secretary of the Committee on Family Research of the International Sociological Association.
