Gambling is a major public policy issue in Australia, affecting the health and wellbeing of individuals and families in a range of ways. Almost half (46%) of Australians aged 18 and over who gambled in the past-year can be classified as being at-risk of, or already experiencing, gambling harm.

This research summary draws on available data to describe:

  • the extent of gambling participation and expenditure in Australia
  • gambling related harm
  • emerging gambling trends
  • data gaps and opportunities for improved gambling monitoring.
