David Marshall

Dr David Marshall is a human geographer who joined the Institute in September 2022 to work on the Building a New Life in Australia (BNLA) study. He has extensive experience in longitudinal research having previously worked at the National Centre for Longitudinal Data (Department of Social Services), as well as having helped to establish the BNLA study when working for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Prior to joining the Commonwealth public service David held research positions at the University of Queensland, Australian National University and the University of New England, and worked for several years in the Queensland State Government. The early years of his research career (including his PhD work) were focussed on gambling issues, particularly the social and economic implications of widespread availability of electronic gaming machines (pokies).
