Rachel Moody is a Senior Research Officer in the Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Team at the Australian Institute of Family Studies. Rachel has expertise in family law, family and domestic violence and sexual violence. Rachel primarily specialises in collecting and analysing qualitative data and conducting close legal analysis and literature reviews.

Rachel joined the Institute in 2023. Prior to this, Rachel was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2022 and worked as a family law solicitor. In addition to experience working in the family law sector, Rachel has experience undertaking socio-legal research into family law jurisprudence and the family law system, with a particular focus on economic justice and family and domestic violence.

Since joining the Institute, Rachel has worked across a variety of teams and diverse projects. Her recent work has involved research into: initiatives around sexual violence in the context of the criminal justice system and in governmental policies; relationship supports for separated and separating families, foundational supports for people with disability; and pornography. Rachel maintains her socio-legal expertise in family law by regularly contributing to the Institute’s research and submissions in relation to family law jurisprudence and the family law system.
