Improving understanding of the relationship between gambling, alcohol consumption and related harms among young people in Australia

The normalisation of gambling and risky drinking among young people is an issue of increasing community concern. We need to better understand the relationship between different gambling and drinking behaviours, the contexts in which they co-occur, and how co-consumption contributes to health and other harms among young people in Australia.

This is an 18-month national multi-stage study involving an online survey and interviews with young people aged 16–35 years. A community forum will be held in early 2023 to discuss policy and practice implications with young people and other key stakeholders.

Findings will inform the development of innovative, evidence-based, and targeted prevention strategies to improve the health, social and economic outcomes for young people who gamble.
