Overview

The Australian Institute of Family Studies is Australia's key source of research and information on families - their lifestyles, economics, social and demographic patterns. Established in 1980 by the Commonwealth Government, the Institute has a multi-disciplinary research team, an active publishing program, and an information service - the Family Information Centre - which is open from 1 pm to 5pm on weekdays. The Institute's Director is Or Don Edgar. Both he and the Board of Management are appointed by the Governor-General.
