Increasing Indigenous employment rates

You are in an archived section of the AIFS website

This paper provides an overview of the research evidence on why Indigenous Australians have much lower employment rates than non-Indigenous Australians, and which policies and programs have been most successful in increasing Indigenous employment.

It features brief profiles on schemes such as The Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) Scheme and Rio Tinto's Indigenous Employment Program, and an analysis of recent trends in Indigenous employment.

This report was produced by AIFS staff for the Closing the Gap Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse was a Council of Australian Governments’ initiative jointly funded by all Australian Governments. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Family Studies was funded from 2009 to 2014 to deliver the Clearinghouse.
