AIFS’ use of social media
We use social media channels to:
- tell the stories of what matters to families and amplify their voices
- increase the reach and impact of our research
- engage the community in constructive discussion
- recruit participants for surveys and other research
- promote AIFS events.
We encourage members of the community to engage with us on all official social networks. Follow us on:
We encourage constructive discussions on our social media pages. We are an Australian Government statutory agency, and our aim is to provide high quality, impartial information across our channels. We are apolitical and do not engage in discussions about political matters.
Content moderation
Our social media channels are monitored and moderated by the Communications team during working hours, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (AEDT). We aim to respond to queries within 48 hours.
Our Communications team moderates the content for appropriateness, which is guided by our internal social media protocols. If we deem something inappropriate, certain actions will be taken to ensure other users aren’t affected.
Inappropriate content
We may consider content as inappropriate if:
- it infringes privacy
- it discloses information of a threatening or harmful nature
- is offensive, obscene, abusive, racist, sexist, homophobic, ageist
- is illegal
- is defamatory
- is unrelated to the topic at hand, or otherwise unhelpful to respectful and constructive dialogue.
All posts and comments, including edited, hidden or deleted, are captured as historical data in our social media archive. This includes posts and comments made on AIFS channels by third parties.
AIFS staff use of social media
As APS employees, AIFS staff have a right to personal and political expression on social media. This right must be balanced with the obligations of APS employment, as trusted and impartial public servants, and the APS Code of Conduct.
AIFS staff are obliged to adhere to the Social media: Guidance for Australian Public Service Employees and Agencies and the AIFS staff social media policy.
We encourage our staff to share AIFS content among their networks in accordance with relevant guidance and policies.
