Factors, dynamics and effects of isolation for older people

About the project

The Australian Institute of Family Studies has been commissioned by Seniors Rights Service to undertake research that examines factors, dynamics and effects of isolation experienced by older people in New South Wales and a consideration of the status of older people’s rights in this context. This qualitative study will involve group and individual interviews with service providers and professionals in metropolitan, regional and rural locations throughout New South Wales. A small number of individual interviews with older people in New South Wales will also be conducted.

The purpose of this research is to understand both professionals' and individuals’ views on the experiences of isolated older people and the effects of isolation on older people. The interviews with professionals will also explore service providers’ views of the factors giving rise to the isolation experienced by older people, and how service providers currently identify and support access to services by isolated older people.
