Overview
Overall, the Australian Institute of Family Studies strongly supports the approach proposed by the Social Security Review in its first issues paper on income support for families with children. This submission summaries the Institute's response, and offers comments in particular on concepts of horizontal and vertical equity; reducing work disincentives/transition to work; intra-family equity; the balance between horizontal or vertical equity; increment to dependent spouse rebate; and indexation. It also discusses the relative needs of families with younger children, large families, families with teenage children and disabled children.
