The Senate has asked the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee to review new draft legislation that's come before Parliament, the Interactive Gambling Amendment (Prohibition on Credit Card Use) Bill 2020. This Bill would amend the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 to make it illegal for interactive gambling service providers to accept payments by credit card. As part of the review, submissions have been invited from the public. This submission is from the Australian Gambling Research Centre, and presents their research on online wagering in Australia, the current use of credit cards for gambling and industry initiatives to prevent this, harms associated with the use of credit cards for gambling, and the international experience. Overall, it holds that this Bill will make a positive contribution to reducing gambling-related harm in Australia.
