This submission, based on a longitudinal study and one cross-sectional study of parents who had separated on average 15–17 months when (first) interviewed, identified findings relevant to some of the terms of references for the current Inquiry into Child Support, including parents’ perceptions of various aspects of their inter-parental relationship, their reports of child support payment liability, methods and compliance, links between liability and other circumstances, their views about the fairness and affordability of payments and the extent to which payers accept or resent paying child support.
