Overview
Indigenous men and women of working age who have a disability have lower employment rates than their non-Indigenous counterparts and experience greater labour market disadvantage.
This resource sheet reviews the evidence on the effectiveness of programs for increasing employment rates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a disability. It looks at the effectiveness of both Indigenous-specific and mainstream Australian employment programs, as well as overseas programs for Indigenous people with a disability, to examine what works, what doesn't, and what further research is needed.
This report was produced for the Closing the Gap Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse was a Council of Australian Governments’ initiative jointly funded by all Australian Governments. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Family Studies was funded from 2009 to 2014 to deliver the Clearinghouse.
