Release 9.1C2 Data Dictionary

The LSAC Data Dictionary is available in 3 formats:

  • Our Online Data Dictionary is an interactive platform within this website. It features several ways of navigating the LSAC metadata, including exploring the topics and constructs in LSAC, and directed searching by keyword or variable name.
  • The downloadable Excel Data Dictionary contains all the same metadata as the online version. We recommend this for users who are more advanced, require custom filtering of the metadata, or need offline access.
  • We also produce a print-friendly PDF version of the Data Dictionary. This contains only the metadata in the main LSAC survey data files.

Release 9.1C2 Data Linkage Data Dictionaries

The data dictionary provides information about all variables in the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children over the course of the study, including variable names, variable labels, items, cohort, wave, and populations.

The Time Use Data, Cogstate, NAPLAN, MySchool, Event History Calendar and Distance to Coast data dictionaries are separate additional worksheets within the data dictionary.

We also provide dictionaries for data linkage:

School Subject Coder

The School Subject Coder was developed for the purposes of collecting senior school subjects of the LSAC Study Children (SC), due to the absence of either a national database of senior school subjects, or databases at the state/territory jurisdictional levels. The coder was administered for the first time in Wave 7, when the K cohort was 16-17 years old.
