Your survey
About the survey
A wave is a point in time when researchers collect data for a longitudinal study.
Due to the nature of longitudinal surveys (following people over time to detect changes), your contribution is one-of-a-kind and we are incredibly grateful.
Phase 1 is currently underway, and Phase 2 will commence in February 2026.
How to complete your survey
There are 2 parts to the survey; an online survey and an in-person survey with our interviewer.
Your online survey
Your online survey (approximately 30 minutes) can be completed any time before your in-person survey.
You will receive a $20 e-gift card on completion of your online survey.
You will receive a letter, an email and an SMS containing a link to the online survey with your unique log-in code and unique URL. Follow the link, log in and complete your survey.
If you cannot locate these, please call the Growing Up in Australia team on 1800 005 508 (9am - 5pm AEST) for assistance.
Your in-person survey
An interviewer will call or text you to schedule a time to complete your survey at a place where you feel comfortable (e.g. your home, a café, library or park). Our interviewers are flexible and will work with you to find a time and place that is suitable for you both.
Your in-person survey will take around one hour and will include a combination of answering questions from your interviewer and completing questions on their tablet.
You will receive an additional instant $50 e-gift card on completion of your in-person survey.
Complete your online survey and in-person survey to receive $70 in e-gift cards.
What you will be asked about
We have prepared a survey that includes a broad range of topics. Some of the questions are new and some are questions we have asked before. Being a longitudinal study means that we are interested in how your responses to the same questions might change over time.

Who is conducting the research
The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) in collaboration with Roy Morgan who will conduct this survey. Growing Up in Australia is funded by the Department of Social Services (DSS).
Participation in the study is voluntary, and you can withdraw from the study at any time.
Spend, donate or both!
To show appreciation of your continued participation, this year we are offering you up to $70 in e-gift cards that you can choose to spend at a listed retailer.
This year we have partnered with The Smith Family and World Wildlife Fund Australia. If you prefer you can choose to have us donate your $20, your $50 (or both) to one of these charities.
See our e-gift card page for more information.
