About this webinar

This webinar was held on 27 August 2015.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle was developed in recognition of the devastating effects of forced separation of Indigenous children from families, communities and culture. Concerns with the implementation of the Principle, however, have been raised for many years.

In this webinar, Aunty Sue Blacklock, Fiona Arney, Alwin Chong and Gillian Bonser explored how the barriers to implementation can be overcome by increasing the understanding of the Principle and its purpose. We identified how systems can support effective implementation, and described some of the practices that promote safety and cultural connection for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their families and communities.

This webinar coincided with the launch of CFCA Paper No. 34: Enhancing the implementation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle.
