Scientific Advisory Committee Membership – Expression of interest
The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) and the Department of Social Services (DSS) are seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified researchers and academics to join the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) for Growing Up in Australia: The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC).
The SAC provides strategic academic advice on the design, development and future direction of LSAC. This includes advice on study content, survey methodology, longitudinal research design, data quality, analysis, dissemination, and the translation of evidence into policy and practice. The SAC provides advice to the LSAC Project Group, comprising representatives from DSS and AIFS.
As LSAC continues to evolve as a life course and intergenerational study, we are seeking to appoint new members with expertise in contemporary pathways to adulthood to complement the existing skills and expertise of the Committee. New members will join a highly regarded advisory group that combines leading academic expertise with deep institutional knowledge of the study, its participants and its evolution over more than 2 decades.
Areas of expertise
We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- health in young adulthood
- technology and digital lives
- social cohesion and social participation
- work, care and economic participation
Additional desirable skills and experience include:
- designing longitudinal studies
- integrating survey and administrative data
- working with government and policy agencies
- knowledge translation and research impact.
Early career researchers and researchers from diverse or lived experience backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Mentoring and support will be available through established SAC members and the LSAC team.
Appointments are made based on an applicant's expertise, experience and potential contribution to the committee's work. Consideration is also given to the LSAC SAC Skills and Capability Framework to ensure a balanced and complementary mix of expertise across the committee.
For more information about the role and responsibilities of SAC members and the LSAC SAC Skills and Capabilities Framework, please refer to the Terms of Reference [PDF, 313.36 KB].
